IYP - Competitive Products Comparison

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 12:57 am
Robert Cezar, the developer of It's Your Plane (IYP), is constantly updating the programme and its capabilities - for example: the new and improved Pushback sequence, the voice-activated “Please help me" facility, the co-pilot's automatically executed Back-Course approaches, etc. We believe IYP surpasses similar programs offered by our three major competitors (Voice Buddy, Cockpit Chatter and FS2Crew) !

An exaggerated claim? You decide!

We have posted an update of our Competitive Products Comparison Sheet, so why not check it out and let us know if you agree (or not) with our claim!

With Michelle or Mike in the right-hand seat, you'll never again fly alone!

Save Flight Sim Petition

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 2:49 am
Initially developed in 1982 by Bruce Artwick, Microsoft's Flight Simulator has developed into one of the longest-running and best known franchises in the world. It is, in fact, Microsoft's longest-running franchise, predating Windows by three years.

On Thursday, January 22, 2009, Microsoft Corporation announced their intention to cut 5,000 jobs in response to the recent global economic downturn. In the course of this reduction in force the entire ACES studio, the men and women responsible for continued development of the series, was closed.

In a prepared statement released January 23rd, 2009, a spokesperson for Microsoft confirmed this and stated they are committed to the Flight Simulator franchise, and expect to continue to release products in the series, but had nothing specific to announce at that time.

This petition is to serve as an open letter of support for both the ACES studio members and the Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise as a whole. Over its 25+ year history the franchise has built an unmatched fan-base stretching across generations. With the closure of the ACES studio, we, the loyal supporters of the franchise are concerned with the continuity and quality of the brand. Though the franchise remains the property of Microsoft Corporation, the real value remains in the dedication and creativity of the ACES studio members that have now been lost.

In addition, there is concern within the community that Microsoft has “abandoned" its supporters by taking this action. As you know, the franchise has a very strong 3rd party developer community that has invested countless hours and dollars to build applications and hardware to support and enhance the franchise. Without a change in course, it is a very real possibility that this industry, and its fans may look to competing products in the near future leading to millions of dollars of lost revenue.

We, the undersigned, ask Microsoft to preserve the integrity of the Flight Simulator franchise and ensure the future of Microsoft Flight Simulator development.

IYP Version 4.1.0 - A Complete rewrite

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 12:24 am
It's Your Plane announces the release of IYP Version 4.1 - a complete rewrite designed to be able to more easily incorporate the many new aircraft designs that IYP users have been requesting. Version 4.1.0 also includes the following new and upgraded features.

New and Upgraded IYP Features:

New and Interactive Pushback - The First Officer now calls ground operations to execute perfect and accident free pushbacks. . . it is ‘virtual reality' at its best!

More Natural Taxiing speed - When making a turn while taxiing, the co-pilot slows the aircraft speed, as one would normally do with a real aircraft.

ICAO Code - When creating a flight and doing the checklists, the co-pilot may prompt the Captain for the ICAO code for the destination airport.

ACARS – When you say, “Start ACARS logging." your co-pilot will prompt you for the departure airport details and the PLANNED CRUISE LEVEL, for more details click here.

Destination Prompts - If you just jumped into your plane and took off without defining your destination or giving the details to your co-pilot, and at any time during the flight you refer to your destination, she or he will ask you for the destination airport details.

Waypoint Information - When passing over a waypoint, the co-pilot calls out the information. e.g. “passing over Hotel Unicorn Hotel (HUH)." Shortly after passing each waypoint, the co-pilot calls out the next waypoint and the distance to it. e.g. “Next waypoint, Charlie Yankee Delta, distance 72 miles."

Destination Distance and Direction - When the aircraft is at or within 25 miles of the destination airport, the co-pilot reports the distance and direction of the airport. e.g. “25 miles, 11 o'clock." The co-pilot continues to call out the distance and direction at various distances all the way in to the destination airport. e.g. 22, 20, 18, 15, miles, etc.

Speed Control - Speed control of GA and Turbo-prop aircraft (aircraft that don't have a natural throttle control) has been dramatically improved.

Altitude and Rate of Climb
- specifically to help blind and visually impaired IYP users - At 500 feet AGL, 1000 feet AGL, and every 1000 feet thereafter, the co-pilot calls out the altitude and vertical rate of climb. e.g. 1000, rate 1800.

Flight Training
IYP has a new built-in flight training facility with an interactive “live" co-pilot who can be asked to walk you through any or all the IYP checklists from Pre-flight to Shutdown, in both GA (General Aviation) and Jetliners.
