Jack Pelton Calls For Global Cooperation

Cessna CEO Jack Pelton told Australian audience a few weeks ago that the Regional Aviation Association of Australia (RAAA) convention are various commom threads to the problems facing business aviation everywhere.

"We have our work cut out for us – here in Australia, in the United States and around the globe," said Pelton. "Every region of the world has its own issues to deal with and each issue is complex, requiring dedicated and reasoned discussion among the principals."

He told the group that security and safety, airspace management modernization and the environment are the main issues facing the industry everywhere. He said the issues will certainly bring new regulations and the industry needs to work together to ensure governments craft laws that not only address the matters at hand but also consider the operational requirements of general aviation.

Florida Air Museum Receives Grant

The Florida Air Museum on the Sun 'n Fun campus at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida received a $10,000 Save Our History grant. The Museum will partner with the Central Florida Aerospace Acdemy (CFAA) of Kathleen High School, which is on the Sun 'n Fun campus, to develop a new museum exhibit featuring "Florida's Flying Boats-the First Airline Passenger Service." It'll exhibit the world's first airline "St. Petersurg-Tampa Airboat Line" and the first airline passenger flight across Tampa Bay. Applications will be available in January 2010.

The five-chapter instructional course available for the iPhone and iPod Touch contains an hour of HD video, computer animation and instruction from Jason Miller. Each video provides in-depth coverage of airspace, dimensions, charting, airspace entry requirements, real-world cockpit footage demo and how-to communicate in complex airspace.

The Florida Air Museum in Lakeland, Florida has revived a grant to fund a February 2010 Aviation Adventures lecture by Florida documentary filmmaker Jon Anderson in observance of Black History month. Jon Anderson will lecture on "Silver Wings & Civil Rights: The Fight to Fly," which focuses on the Tuskegee Airmen. The lecture by Jon Anderson will be on February 19, 2010, 7PM in the Florida Air Museum on the Sun 'n Fun campus on Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida.

Paul Siedenburg Receives FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award

People gathered at the Des Moines International Airport in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, September 24, 2009 to see Paul Siedenburg receive FAA Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for 50+ years of safe flying. This type of award honors people who have contributed and maintained safe flight operations for 50+ years. Paul Siedenburg's first ride was in a Ford Tri Motor in Savanna, Illinois.
He barnstormed in a Waco UPF-8 at someones farm. His career began in the United States Air Corps in 1943 and soloed on July 14, 1943 at Stamford, Texas. He bought a Waco UPF biplane. Paul Siedenburg is accident free for 65 years and 7,000 hours of flying. Congratulations Paul Siedenburg!

The Senate's inaction on FAA re-authorization has prompted a coalition of aviation groups to lobby lawmakers to get work.

F-16 Fighting Falcons Escort Mooney with Unresponsive Pilots

A Mooney crashed on Wednesday morning near Muncie, Indiana after the pilot failed to respond to the air traffic controller. Two F-16 Fighting Falcons from the Indiana National Guard assisted the airplane by providing an escort until the airplane went down into a cornfield. Military Officials told the Associated Press that the pilot was suffering health problems.

Lycoming Authorized Service Centers Network Launched

Lycoming Engines has launched its first network of Lycoming Authorized Service Centers. The Authorized Service Centers must meet requirements. Lycoming will support Authorized Service Centers with online training programs and support soon-to-be-released products. Lycoming Engines has approved 27.

EAA announced on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 that Captain Chesley Sullenberger III and First Officer Jeffery Skiles are the Co-Chairmen of the EAA Young Eagles. They are famous for landing US Airways Flight 1549 successfully into the Hudson River.





Chelsey Sullenberger III (b. January 23, 1951)
He is an American airline transport pilot (ATP). He went to the United States Air Force Academy in 1969. He got a Bachelors of Science at the USAF Academy and at the Purdue University earning his masters degree. He served as a fighter pilot for the United States Air Force which he piloted McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom III from 1975-1980. He has been an employee of US Airways since 1980 and has over 40 years of flying experience. He became famous on January 15, 2009 when he successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River saving the lives of all 151 of the passengers.






Jeffrey Skiles
He received a Bachelors of Science degree in geology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before working with US Airways in 1980 he flew cargo planes. He has more than 15,000 hours of flying. He has a wife and three kids where he lives in Wisconsin.
He became famous on January 15, 2009 when he successfully landed US Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River saving the lives of all 151 of the passengers.

Gulfstream G650 Rolls Out to the Public for the First Time

On September 26, 2009 Gulfstream rolled out to the public the G650 to a crowd of 7,000 people in Savannah, Georgia. First Flights on the G650 is not yet determined. The deliverers are set in 2012.

The Gulfstream G650 is a twin-engine business jet developed by Gulfstream Aerospace. The airline features satellite phones, fax machines and wireless internet.

Dr. James Joki and John Roundhill Wins Pathfinder Award

Every year, The Museum of Flight in Seattle honors Pacific Northwest indivduals who has made significant contributions to the development of the aerospace industry with its annual Pathfinder Award. This years honorees are Dr. James Joki and John Roundhill. The Pathfinder Award is selected by The Museum of Flight Board of Trustees. Photos of all Pathfinder Award winners is on view at the museum's William M. Allen Theater lobby.

Dr. James Joki
Former NASA engineer that contribute to the development of the Apollo program Extravehicular Mobility Unit (EMU). He received a degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering at the University of Washington. Dr. James Joki designed, developed and tested the product with his colleagues.






John Roundhill
He began his career at Boeing in 1965 as a research specialist in acoustics and propulsion technology. He also worked on 737, 757 and 767. During his last five years at Boeing, he served as vice president of Product Strategy and Development for the Commerical Airplane Group. He contributed to various airplane programs such as 777, 747-8 and 787. He still participates in those programs.
