PMDG J41 Released

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 2:36 am
The Jetstream 41 turboprop regional airliner, manufactured by BAE Systems, is a major development of the Jetstream 31/32 regional airliner family which entered service in 1982. The Jetstream 31 and the Jetstream 32EP (enhanced
performance) are 19-seat turboprop airliners. The stretched Jetstream 41 development was announced in 1989, the first flight took place in 1991 and the aircraft entered service in 1992. The goal was to compete directly with 30-seat aircraft like the Embraer Brasilia, Dornier 328 and Saab 340.

The Jetstream 41's stretched fuselage is 16 ft (4.88 m) longer, consisting of an 8 foot (2.5 m) plug forward of the wing and a 7 ft 9 in (2.36 m) plug to the rear; the fuselage design was completely new and did not contain any parts of the old fuselage. The new design required an increased wing span, which also included reworked ailerons and flaps. The wing was mounted below the fuselage in order for it not to carry through the cabin aisle, which also led to larger wing root fairings which increased baggage capacity.

An accurate, detailed simulation of the Jetstream 41 has been sorely missing from desktop flight simulation... Until Now!

Airport Design Editor 9x Release 1.45

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 12:02 am
ScruffyDuck Software and the ADE Development Team are delighted to announce the release of ADE9X. This is the first version of Airport Design Editor to support both FS9 and FSX. The new functionality means that FS9 airport developers now have access to most of the functionality that has been available to FSX designers for some time. This includes the Approach Designer and all the other tools that allow users to work with buildings, signs etc. The only area currently not supported for FS9 is terrain elements such as land class, roads and so on. We have spent a lot of time working on making the importation of AFCAD files into ADE as easy as possible.

Whilst this version is mostly about providing support for FS9, our FSX users should also update as they will find many fixes and a number of enhancements including much better handling of stock navaids, user defined colors for taxi links and an improved and more stable interface with the Sim.

We would like to take this opportunity of thanking all those in our development and beta teams as well as all those users who have tried out the release candidate and given us valuable feedback. You can find out more about ADE9X by visiting www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk or downloading the package direct from www.downloadcenter.scruffyduck.org.uk.

Boeing 737 Cockpit vs. Simulator video

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 7:33 am
AviaFilms Production has released their newest video, the Boeing 737 Cockpit vs. Simulator. The film features a return flight on board the magnificent B737-300 classic operated in the night skies of Italy. The pilots on this short domestic flight had to put up with high winds on the outbound leg of the flight and with rain showers on the return trip. With high precision and professionalism displayed by the crew you will see how this incredible piece of outdated technology is utilized to its fullest extent.

Following the flight on the B737 Classic the film takes you on board the Boeing 737 EFIS full motion simulator for some really crazy flying. The student pilot and instructor will battle crosswinds as high as 40 knots and make several traffic circuits and go-arounds. Afterwards you will notice how a full LOOP is performed on the 737 Sim and witness a couple of barrel rolls to spice up the experience.

As a special addition to the movie there is also an additional bonus video which features the captain's view on landing in a B737-500 and some exciting aerobatics in the L13.

Texture Max Load Editor Released

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 5:36 pm
I am pleased to announce that the Texture Max Load Editor has been released! The Texture Max Load Editor is a free application developed from the ground up for Flight Simulator X. The Texture Max Load Editor will change the maximum texture resolution that Flight Simulator X can load. Many flight simmers have environment add-ons, such as Real Environment Xtreme, that make use of High Definition and Super High Definition textures. These textures can go up to a resolution of 4096 pixels square. However, the default maximum resolution for Flight Simulator X is 1024. This means that you are not making use of the SHD, high resolution textures you have loaded.

Users have the option to run a service that makes sure the Texture Max Load value never change back to the default value. This service is unique and no other third party add-on can do this.

The application has many options available so users can customize their experience. Below is a list of the options that are available in the application.
  • Ability to run the application when Flight Simulator starts
  • Ability to run the application when Windows starts
  • Option to run the service automatically
  • Auto-Change options
These options can be changed at any time in the application.

For more information and download links for the Texture Max Load Editor, visit the Frosty Software website at http://www.frostysoftware.com

Thank you,

Steve Frost

Elemental Software Solutions is please to announce the next-gen texture solution package, FS Elemental - Intense Pack, for Microsoft's FS2004, will be released today. FS Elemental is an extraordinary and complete environment enhancement dedicated to Flight Simulator 2004. With simply one click, you can now revive your current Microsoft flight simulator environment. All textures were developed to work synergistically WITH each other, with the implementation of newer technology and techniques. Sky colors change with the seasons accordingly and cloud formations are beautifully rendered with stunning lifelike realism. The sun actually appears brighter the more it's focused upon. At dawn and dusk, land masses and cloudscapes are blanketed by beautiful matching colors and the bottom of cloud formations appear darker as the sky darkens, and lightens accordingly in brighter atmospheric conditions.

In addition to the succesful release of FSE Natural Pack and the newly released Intense Pack, ESS will soon release two additional packages: Vintage Pack and Weather Environment nHancer.

Elemental Software Solutions is comprised of flight sim enthusiasts & developers, all who have been making Microsoft software and flight simulator add-ons for a combined 18 years.

FS Elemental will be available for both FS2004 exclusively from The FlightSim Store: http://www.flightsimstore.com

FS2Crew Voice Control series taking Feature Requests!

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 4:27 am
FS2Crew wants YOUR input for new voice control program! FS2Crew's brand-new voice control program is nearing completion. FS2Crew's new voice control program promises to take voice control to never-before-seen levels of realism! It does re-invent the whole genre.

With voice control, users will be able to “talk" to their computer instead of pressing buttons to control the Captain/Pilot Flying.

It marks a real change from the way FS2Crew has modeled its airline flight crew simulations in the past.

The code for FS2Crew's next generation voice control program, which will work with the default 737 for starters, is nearing lock-down.

However, because FS2Crew is always looking for fresh ideas from its user base, we are accepting feature requests.

It's late in the game, but if your idea is good and reasonable, we might be able to fit it in before the release.

You may add your feature requests directly to FS2Crew's “voice control" support forum located at Avsim:

http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showforum=345

Time is running out, so get your ideas in quick!

The OZX Grumman Goose HD Redux Now Released

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 10:53 pm
The team over at Aussiex would like to introduce you to our latest freeware project - The OZX Grumman Goose HD Redux. The Grumman Goose first took to the skies in 1936 during the golden years of aviation and was immortalised in the TV series "Tales of the Gold Monkey". Within the sim fraternity there have been a number of addon versions of this classic aeroplane and Microsoft's rendition of this rare and famous aircraft leapt into our simulated skies towards the end of 2006 with the release of the final version of their long running simulator series - FSX.

The Grumman Goose itself is extremely rare with only 345 airframes produced. There are approximately 60 remaining in service throughout the world today and the number of pilots with endorsements on this type are few and far between. We have been lucky enough to have access to a pilot who has flown the Goose and has been able to assist with our remodelling of the aircraft's performance files.
The Goose has proven extremely versatile and has seen operational service as a freighter, passenger transport, military transport and even as a flying yacht installed with bars and toilets. It has held roles with Army, Airforce, Navy, Coastguard and has served around the far flung, four corners of the world.

Microsoft's model of the G21A Grumman Goose has been a sleeper; well received in certain quarters but providing generally ho-hum graphics and flight model. It had a bland interior and was crying out for some high quality paints. When the team at AussieX started investigating this aircraft for our HD Redux treatment it was also discovered that the performance files for this bird were derived from an assortment of different Goose models; a lot of fine tuning was going to be required to get this bird to behave as close to the real life aircraft as possible.

We think we have succeeded with this ambitious tasking. We offer two different models of the Goose - the original model with 450hp Pratt & Whitney radials and an uprated version dubbed the 'HP' (High Performance) with more powerful 650hp engines. Both models have had significant performance tweaking to make them behave as much as possible like their real life counterparts. In addition to this remodelling of the flight characteristics we have overhauled the interior of the aircraft with high resolution virtual cockpits. Engine gauges have been recalibrated for both engine models of our Goose and there are a number of different virtual cockpits available in our aircraft.

Finally we have provided six high-definition paint schemes for this aircraft in both 450hp and HP-650hp versions. These 4096 pixel textures include every rivet, screw, dent and panel-line hand placed on normal, specular and diffusion texture maps. What this means for you the pilot is a gorgeous rendition of the metal framed G21 Goose just waiting to grace your monitor with realism and authenticity.

Please take the time to download our freeware update to this rare and beautiful aircraft and let us know how much you enjoy her by posting your screenshots and stories over at Aussiex.

Aerosoft - Approaching Innsbruck

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 1:35 am
Experience Innsbruck airport, one of the most challenging airports in Europe. Every building is recreated with great attention to detail and realism and is placed on high definition areal images in the great Alpine landscape.

Innsbruck Kranebitten Airport (LOWI) is the main airport of Western Austria. In the winter months it is particularly busy because of the many tourists that come for the ski slopes of the region. As the airport is located in a deep valley the approaches and departures are far from standard and many of the procedures can only be flown by pilots who got authorisation of the federal office of civil aviation. Challenging in good weather conditions, potentially lethal in the less then ideal condition.

VATSIM-UK Liverpool Fast4ward - 21st June

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 6:04 pm
Dust off your Ryanair PMDG 737s and easyJet Wilco A319s! VATSIM-UK and the Northern Regional Training Scheme would like to invite you to the first Fast4ward event, which will will this year, be held at the airport which serves the historic and legendary city of Liverpool in the United Kingdom. Liverpool is a fantastic city with a rich culture, and is home to a diverse group of people; the airport is named after the Beatles star, John Lennon, and sits in a very small piece of airspace which quickly leads to the airspace becoming crowded under normal conditions, so this event will push pilots and controllers to the maximum and promises to be an unforgettable event.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport (EGGP) will be hosting the first in a series of Fast4ward events - a Fast4ward is a little bit like a real operations, in that all of the day's flights are bookable in a "realops system", but the time of arrival and departure are altered so that the days flights fit into four hours, compressing the level of traffic so it's busier and more challenging.

During this event, which will be held between 1700 and 2100 zulu on the 21st of June 2009, we will have the following positions online:

MAN_CTR
EGGP_APP
EGGP_F_APP*
EGGP_TWR
EGGP_GND

*Subject to traffic levels

Other enroute positions are expected to open, too, which means Liverpool will be the place to be on Sunday the 21st of June!

To browse, and book your flight, please click this link: http://www.vatsim-uk.org/realops/index.php?ev=31 - You will need to log in using your VATSIM CID number and password to book, and there are about 96 to choose from!

A document for pilots which can be printed out (we strongly suggest you read it before the event, don't worry, it's short!) can be found here: http://www.vatsim-uk.org/realops/Liverp ... _Brief.pdf

Flight bookings can be made here: http://www.vatsim-uk.org/realops/?ev=31

We look forward to seeing you at Liverpool!

AlphaSim release AS365 Dauphin

Filed under: Flight Simulator News — admin @ 12:54 am
Now available for FS2004 - the AS365N Dauphin. One of Aerospatiale's finest designs, the Dauphin found roles in both the civilian and military spheres, acting as a reliable VIP transport as well as a well-equipped lifesaver in the SAR and MedEvac roles. AlphaSim's package includes both the earlier N1 version as well as the modified N2, each in VIP transport and MedEvac guises.

One thing the Dauphin is known for is the variety of colourful paint schemes which were applied to its sleek lines, our model set does not disappoint here, there are no less than eight colourful texture sets (including a fictional US Coast Guard one), with matching interior colours. The models feature different interior fittings for VIP and MedEvac, the latter sporting a working winch on the N2 version. The detailed v-c has many mousable features, including a full suite of radios. The initial release is of the FS2004 version, but FSX is as usual where the model looks its best, self-shadowing and bump mapping adding to the appreciation of the Dauphin's classic shape. FSX also adds some more detail, including a third crew member in the MedEvac version and added v-c detailing in all versions.

A superb set of Dauphin sounds by Adriano Martoni is included with both sim versions, these reproduce that special Dauphin whirring to a tee. Both FS9 and FSX-specific flight models make the Dauphin a pleasure to fly. 6 months in development, this is a great package for both beginners and conessieurs alike.

For FS2004 only. Full FSX version to follow. Filesize : 70MB.
Price : approx. $32 USD, £19.95, 22.75 EUR, 40 AUD
